I was managing editor of Dr. Dobbs Journal from 1983 to 1985 andinvolved in some one-off special issues after that. I went on to be the UNIX software market analyst at Dataquest and then joined Oracle's public relations team. I then went to Cisco and was able to retire last year after riding the Cisco stock for nine years (yes I converted it into safer investments before the stock tanked!). However, I found that I have a lot more work left in me, so I joined a MEMS-based photonic switch startup in San Diego last summer, where I am Director of Corporate Communications.
